Report ID #277: 180 Degree turn not functioning correctly

I don't know if this a side effect of the new sailing controls but if I use special ability 180 degree turn I actually do a full 360 degrees. It's like something out of The Last Starfighter. Sail into middle of convoy and spin around cannons blazing. Either there's a value out of whack or the inertia of the ship turning so quick is making it turn further. The supposed 3 minute cooldown for this doesn't seem to be working either, meaning I can spin and fire constantly.....

Ok well realistic settings (default) requires you to use a lot of counter rudder to stop a turn (turning the wheel to make the rudder straight again)
It may still be a bug with the cooldown but I dont think the actual perk is bugged

I strongly suspect this is because of the realistic ship handling mod. That perk probably doesn't work quite well with it.

Well on the plus side its not a really realistic ability so having it not work properly isn't so bad

I wonder if one tried it in a storm if it would capsize the ship?
I don't use it anymore, so it could be a fun test.

All this spinning reminds me of a strange problem which sometimes occurs immediately after some storms:
The player's ship- or a random AI ship- will sometimes just keep spinning around on the spot, unable to move!
Anyone else noticed this before? I certainly wouldn't want to be on a ship spinning like that...

Maybe I used the wrong ship, but I only got one warning in three attempts. It was a class 2 Spanish War Galleon. What would be even more top heavy?
Ships spinning like tops, turning in their own length is just something we have to live with. When it happens to my ship there are usually enemy ships close by. I have no patience for that and hit F1 and LOAD. I once intervened in a fight in a storm where one ship from each of the three fleets was spinning. It was so strange I just played on through.

Yea, though I've seen it in a non-storm too.
Happened to my ship once, and I've seen the AI a few times too.

I've only seen out-of-control spinning of my ship when I'd use 30x time compression, especially when I'm on a fast/manoeuvrable ship.
Never happened to me on 10x time compression or in any other instances...

As for the Spanish War Galleon not being easily capsized:
Although unrealistic, in the game the chance of capsizing depends on how much the ship rolls and bigger ships roll less than smaller ones.
Of course it should depend on loading condition and certain larger ships should indeed be top-heavy and capsize easier,
but I'm not at all sure how to code that into the game.
